1. Questions: When I push the wall button, my garage door will go down just a little bit, stop and reverse. Why on earth is it doing that?

Answer: First determine if your garage door opener has photo-electric safety eyes (located on either side of the garage door opening near the floor). If so, the photo-electric safety eyes should have a small colored LED light on each of them. If the lights are flickering or if you just see one of light, then that indicates that the photo-electric eyes are out of alignment.

  2. Questions: I heard a really big BOOM that came from my garage. I looked around and did not see anything that had fallen, but now my garage door will not go up. What happened?

Answer: More than likely you have a broken spring. Commonly, the springs are either located directly above the garage door on the wall (torsion springs) or they stretch over each horizontal track (extension springs). Do NOT attempt to change or alter the torsion springs in any way. Hire a trained professional to replace them!

  3. Questions: Ok, so I have ONE broken torsion spring. The other one is FINE! Why am I being told that I should replace BOTH of them?

Answer: The industry standard cycle life for torsion springs is 10,000. Once the door has cycled 10,000 (up & down), then the spring(s) will break. The spring that is not broken today will break sooner than later. You are better off in replacing both springs now and avoid another inconvenience.

  4. Questions: My husband left a box in the garage door opening and closed the garage door on it. Now the door is crooked. What gives?

Answer: To begin with, it sounds as if you have an older garage door opener that does not have any photo-electric safety eyes. (If you did, photo-electric safety eyes would have prevented the door from closing). But to answer your question, more than likely the lift cable (this cable runs from the bottom section of your garage door) is off the drum. Hire a trained professional!

  5. Questions: I have a built-in remote control in my car and I CANNOT get it programmed! What am I doing WRONG?

Answer: When programming vehicles with the "built-in" remotes (Home Link System) you have to read the directions very carefully. When reading the directions, look for the part that mentions the part about the radio control system being "rolling code". (More than likely that is what you have) and then follow the directions to the end. If you are still having problems either go to www.homelink.com or Hire a professional!
